Italy Month: Udine

Yes! It is Italy month on Travelling With Me! We have already spoken about Bibione on two occasions, as this is truly one of my favourite destinations in this beautiful Mediterranean country. Now, we set our sites on the picturesque city Udine. This place is a tourists dream with so much culture to embrace and a number of historical places to visit; Udine is a must when visiting Northern Italy. Why not head under Palladio’s arch for he short walk up one of the only hills in Udine and visiting the 13th Century church of Santa Maria di Castello and the city castle. This castle houses the 13 room Galleria d’Arte Antica and holds one the art worlds highlight paintings, the Blood of Christ, produced by Vittore Carpaccio.

History doesn’t cost much!

Most of the cities incredible sites are free of charge including the Museo Del Duomo. Places such as the Galleria d’Arte Antica mentioned previously can cost anywhere up to €5, which to be honest, is not much to ask for. Between the months of June and December this magnificent places holds a Tiepolo exhibition with a different theme.

Udine has some truly outstanding restaurants available and again the cost is not a huge problem. You can head to various places around the city but my favourite are Ars Bibendi, La Ciacarade and Hostaria alla Tavernetta. Whether you are looking for some of Italy’s famous pasta dishes or pizzas, these restaurants offer authentic Italian food with a great atmosphere to go with it. The food available is packed full of flavour and offered with a great selection of beautiful olive oils and homemade breads.

Where to Stay?

I have been to Udine only once but I fell in love with it straight away. Whilst there I was able to come across an incredible hotel the Hotel Mimosa ( This hotel offers any luxury traveller a great nights sleep and is close to one of northern Italy’s most beautiful beaches. If you are an explorer like myself you will be please to know that you will be able to visit a number of places from the hotel such as Venice, Trieste, Cividale, Palmanova and Marano Lagunare.

If history, culture and authentic Italian cuisine combined are your idea of a dream holiday then don’t waste another moment reading this article! Make sure you visit another of Italy’s finest cities.
