When you think of panoramic views, tall buildings and incredible skyline, London isn’t always the first place to jump to mind. Although, London is full of history, excitement and unbelievable sights so it comes as no surprise that being able to see the ‘Big Smoke’ in all its glory from above is high on the list of things to do for most tourists and even residents of the capital city.

Normally the best views of London can only be seen by the workers in buildings that tower the city making it slightly harder to enjoy the views than if you were in New York, but over the years some of the world’s amazing architectural buildings have been erected here to enable all to enjoy London from above. Whether you are looking for the best view of London, a romantic time for two or you have an hour or two to kill, London can offer you various places to do this and I have chosen my favourite places for you to take a look at.

The Shard

Now you would be stupid if you wanted to see London from above and you didn’t head straight to the tallest building in the city and indeed the whole of Europe, The Shard. This piece of architectural genius stands over 1,000ft high and offers 360 degree views of over 40 miles over London. Not only this but the Shard is home to a number of restaurants, Hotels, Luxury Spa’s, Office Space, Luxury Homes and digital telescopes to see over this great city. Tickets for an adult cost £25+ and for children are considerably less.

London Eye

The London Eye has quickly become the most popular paid tourist hotspot since opening 13 years ago right on the edge of the Thames River. Standing 443 feet tall, this city attraction is perfect for those looking for a romantic evening looking over a brightly lit London skyline or for those looking to get the perfect snap of views across the city. Your 30 minute ride on the world’s biggest ferris wheel allows you to see spectacular views over London, in particular St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and of course the unique view of the entire grounds which Buckingham palace stands on, as you know it is relatively hard to see the whole of the palace grounds at ground level. Why not book a private capsule and enjoy stunning views with a cheeky glass of bubbly.

Heron Tower

If you are in the central London and happen to make your way to Liverpool Street, be sure to stop off at the Heron Tower as I am sure you will not be disappointed. This city skyscraper is not known by all and from previous experience I advise it to everyone to visit at least once! Not only can you head to the top of the building in a Charlie and the Chocolate glass style lift but you can enjoy an incredible meal at either the Duck and Waffle or Sushi Samba whilst enjoying the views. I took my girlfriend there for her birthday and we were blown away with the sights and the food on offer. Make sure you head there on a clear sunny day (I know they are hard to come by here in the UK) to really enjoy it to its fullest.#

Emirates Air Line

If you’re looking to travel over the Thames or between places like North Greenwich and the Royal Docks then take the Emirates Air Line! Not only are you able to travel to your next destination via cable car but you will be able to enjoy great views as you head over the Thames and can see the O2 arena in the distance. The cable car offers a crossing of the river every 15 seconds so long waits may not be necessary and if you didn’t get enough of the sites on the way over then you could easily walk round and hop back on! A single fare can cost up to £4.30 for an adult, if you have an oyster card £3.20 or if you are a frequent flyer or want to be, then you can purchase a ticket for £16.
